Pretend Best Friends
I was excited to find out my pretend best friend plays dodgeball too. Of course, in our pretend life we both play, but it's always good when real life overlaps pretend life too. The easy thing to do at this point is to write me off as crazy, but I think you should read on a bit before coming to that conclusion.
What is a pretend best friend?
A pretend best friend is someone you meet later in life, and realize you really like that person, and if you had grown up together, would likely be real best friends. However, due to where you live, your social circles, life in general, it's not feasible to have that relationship. So, just make it up. Now me and my pretend best friend, we've been together lots of pretend milestones in our relationship. Whether it was a pretend lemonade stand, sharing our pretend toys, going on pretend trips including that one pretend trip that ended in us being pretend angry at each other for a few days before pretend getting over it. You know how it goes.
Anyhow, I found out she plays on the same night as our team, but in a tier higher. Luckily, it looks like her team might be bad enough to get bumped down to our tier, and we played "reasonably well" enough that I think we might stay in this tier. We had a particularly bad time of it last week for some reason, and as such had our work cut out for us last night. Also on a side note, dodgeball isn't exactly hardcore exercise, but playing while getting over a bout of bronchitis isn't exactly the epitome of fun. Especially, I might add, when one of your teammates decides to leave early due to an episode of heroes hot date.
This is the point where you're free to conclude I am crazy if you wish.
Apple store updates
The drama over the broken macbook continues. Perhaps I was too hasty to be pleased by Apple support. When we left this story, they had promised the SO that shipping decals were being emailed to her, and she would just need to get UPS to scan them, in order to get her new macbook shipped out.
Of course, the decals never came, and a call two days later resulted in going through a chain of about 4 people trying to find out what happened. After an hour or so of internal phone tag, she finally reached someone who said "oh, these decals have been emailed". Of course they hadn't, or at least hadn't made it to our email server (yes i checked!). Long story short, they were finally sent, and she was able to ship out the broken macbook.
Fast forward, and the "new" macbook has been sitting around, unshipped for the past 5 days or so, and the old macbook is slowly making it's way around the country. The SO has a sneaking suspicion that Apple is waiting for the old macbook to return to them before shipping out the "new" one, contrary to what they told her. Seeing as the "new" macbook has a delivery date of Nov 4th (Hi!) to November 10th, they had better do some super express shipping to meet this estimate.
Weren't you working on some sort of climbing guidebook?
Yes! I think I can finally show it to you, I haven't updated the code in the Random Code section to the latest version, but you can see it in action here. We're still ironing out last minute finicky details, but the main functionality is in tact, and it's getting populated with data.
I think I can extract some generic functionality from this module, but it will probably require a rename (which is painful to say the least), and also a lot of cleaning up of code (I may have taken the easy way around theming issues from time to time!). I'll see what this week looks like and perhaps will get a formal write up of a usable module for generic, Google "map book" type content.
