I found $5

I found $5! If you're unfamiliar with the concept (and were too lazy to click on the link), it's basically a great way to get out of awkward social situations of your own creation.

A quick example:

Owen: So the other day I was driving around town, and Faith came on the radio. I know it's not really a full on 80's power ballad, but man I was so into it!

Disinterested Onlooker: Ah...

Owen: And then I stopped for coffee and found $5.

Disinterested Onlooker (relieved at an opportunity to refocus conversation): Oh excellent, that's very fortunate! If you'll excuse me...

So in the above exchange a fictitious "Owen" wanders into a social gaffe of his own making, and recognizing it as such, has the fortitude to ease the situation and allow for a graceful exit for everyone involved, while simultaneously minimizing the damage to his own social standing. Excellent!

But really, I did find $5, just sitting there in my apartment building's stairwell, which of course presents a few dilemmas. I'm not really cut from the "finders keepers" cloth, but then again, posting up a "I found $5, please contact me to claim it!" note is probably not the most prudent decision. I suppose I'll just hang on to it, and if anyone mentions it, I'll contact them and return the money.

On dodgeball

Some people take the game way too seriously.

On stackoverflow

Some people take their reputation way too seriously. But I have to admit, after toiling around with minimal rep, I spent a bit more time actively answering questions. The result was a few boosts of reputation, that were extremely tantalizing.

There's a certain geek allure to clicking links to various questions, and noticing your reputation increase, at which point of course you want to check which answer people found so enlightening.

On template engines

I have no opinion on how serious people are on their template engines; however, I do know that I'm using this blog post to procrastinate from finishing my version of it, so hopefully I'll have something concrete to share as a first draft shortly.

I don't really expect it to be ground breaking in any sense, but it fits my pretty narrow goals for what I expect in a template engine. I'll reflect on that more when the time comes though!

I like the $5 thing. Remind

I like the $5 thing. Remind to use that one when trying to explain why I pounded in someone's face over a dodgeball dispute.
